Win the Inherent Reward of Bidding in an Auction on QuiBids

Millions of people watched a prematurely balding man in a ratty tweed suit awkwardly accept the Grammy for Best New Artist just over a month ago. That man was Justin Vernon, though most know him by the name Bon Iver, which is actually the moniker of his Wisconsin soft-rock band that makes kitschy, gorgeous music. He said he started making songs for “the inherent reward of making songs,” but don’t take our word for it. Watch his rambling thank-you’s — which forced the famous pre-programmed “wrap it up” house music from the show producers — below.

We feel like Mr. Vernon — or Iver, or whatever — spoke a noble truth: that sometimes you should do things without any expectation of reward or advancement. That, on certain occasions, one is benefited by the pure, undiluted act of participating in something for no reason other than just to do it.

So that’s why we set this special auction up: for you to spend bids just because it’s inherently, objectively fun to participate in an auction. Yeah, prizes are good we suppose, but they’re nothing compared to the thrill of actually getting to click that beautiful, blue “BID” button, over and over and over and over…

Sorry, we zoned out there for just a minute. The combination of listening to Bon Iver’s soothing saxophones and all that inherent joy just put us in the most wonderfully relaxing mood.

Of course we’re teasing poor Mr. Vernon, just like Justin Timberlake did on Saturday Night Live not too long ago, and not to try to discount what he’s saying, because there’s a good point to it.

This whole concept is pretty silly, as we all know that QuiBids would turn into LiveJournal faster than an MP3 download if it weren’t for the massive amount of swag we auction off. But sometimes it really is helpful to scale back from zooming around at light speed online, racing to beat everybody else to the best possible deal, and realize just how much darn fun bidding is.

The pulsing thrill of competition is addictive: it hooks people in. While a lot of other entertainment auction sites are content just reeling customers in with this tingly, joyful feeling that doesn’t always manifest in a win, we do our best to guarantee as many won auctions for as many QuiBids participants as possible. So you can keep enjoying that thrill of bidding, and walk away with something to show for it.

So yeah, this auction’s admittedly pretty cheesy. But sometimes cheesy stuff helps us realize little truths that often get forgotten in the bustling rush of everyday life. Like how beautiful Iceland is.

Win an Aladdin-guided Magic Carpet Ride on QuiBids

When did you last let your heart decide to explore a new, fantastic point of view? Do you find yourself constantly dreaming about shining, shimmering splendor? Of a dazzling place you never knew?

If so, then bidding on this dreamboat Disney star and his enchanted rug might just be the auction that shows you the world. When you’re way up here, it’s crystal-clear… OK, screw it. Record scratch! We’ve officially run out of ways to tie those lyrics — timeless treasures of our childhood as they may be — into this post. But that’s alright because it doesn’t make touring the sky with a handsome Disney hunk any less awesome.

Now in Aladdin, the title character used three wishes to become a prince, get rescued, and then set his genie friend Robin Williams free, but we’re curious what you guys would do with three QuiBids wishes. We want to know what you would do to make QuiBids even better! And much like Genie’s three rules (no killing anybody, no playing Cupid, and no raising the dead — though we’ve already accounted for that one), we’ve got a few conditions to outline before you can wish in the comments. They are as follows.

Genie Rule #1: No magical automatic auction win feature. C’mon. We both know you guys are way more creative than that.

Genie Rule #2: No unlimited stock of bids. Again, you guys are more creative than that. Plus, you’d just wind up driving prices up even higher and you’d still have to pay for them. So, not in your interest.

Genie Rule #3: Much like the genie’s standing no-kill order, you may not eliminate other users. Yes, of course it’s infuriating when you’ve stayed up until 3 a.m. to nab a Canon Rebel T2i and SqueezCheez47 keeps on forcing you reload your Bid holster. No, you may not pluck his avatar off the screen and boot it to Timbuktu.

So yeah! We want to hear what your QuiBids wishes are. Not a fan of QLive? Wish your QBar had additional features? Want to bid on an item we haven’t put up for auction in a while? You’ve got three wishes! We wanna hear ‘em.
