Be the next QuiBidder of the Week!

Are you a QuiBids regular?

In the nearly three years since we opened up shop, we’ve generated a devoted following that’s spilled over into the QuiBids Facebook and Twitter profiles, as well as a handful of other great social media platforms we inhabit. Just like we’ve got returning QuiBidders, we’ve got returning QuiBids Facebook and Twitter users, in part thanks to our daily and weekly promotions where we give away free bids.

above: Lena G, a recent QuiBidder of the Week

You can sign up for our Daily Sweepstakes via Facebook, but there are other ways to score free bids and join in with our customer community online! The biggest one is signing up through Facebook to be our next QuiBidder of the Week. All it takes is a quick form, a photo of yourself, and a quick writeup explaining your QuiBids story and strategy.

We’ve had 19 winners so far and each one gets a $50 gift card of their choosing if they’re selected! Let’s have a quick look back at some of our winners’ strategies.

Lisa D.
Lisa relies on the Buy Now to turn bidding in auctions into a no-risk proposition!

Greg W.
Greg steadily worked his way up from gift cards to jewelry and then eventually some pretty high-dollar items, like a Tom Tom GPS and Oakley sunglasses. Celeste K. did the same thing!

Patricia S.
Patricia mostly sticks with gift cards, but she didn’t just work her way up. She accumulated them until she could buy an HD television with gift cards alone! Now there’s a strategy!

David Di Franco, Jr.
In addition to being one of our most outspoken fans, David’s put together a ton of different guides to success on QuiBids, including a handful of YouTube videos and his own eBook, “QuiBids Tips on the Quick.” Check them out at his website.

Bryce S.
Bryce stays away from really crowded auctions, which has served him well in winning a high volume of not-so-expensive auctions.

Those are fewer than half of our QuiBidders of the Week! Be sure to check out guidelines before you sign up and good luck in your quest to become QuiBid’s next QOTW!

6 HUGE QuiBids Australia wins in May

Did you know that QuiBids operates in Australia?

In the slightly modified but still immortal words of Kel Mitchell, “We do we do we do we do we do we do we do-oooooo!” Down under’s the third market where we opened shop (after the US and then Canada), and we’ve got new customers signing up there every day, which we’re super-excited about!

We think they are too, judging by the customers returning to the site because of big wins like these. Let’s see who got the best deals in Australia in the month of May.

Item: Global Master Chef 7-Piece Knife Block Set
Price: $0.04
Winner spent: One Voucher Bid
Savings: $449.95
Here’s this month’s winner for biggest savings, pictured above. This handsome knife set runs from an eight-centimeter paring knife on up to a bread knife that’s nearly three times as long. There’s nothing that battlestar007 won’t be able to chop now!

Item: iHome iD85 Clock Radio Dock

Price: $0.10
Winner spent: Three Real Bids
Savings: $148.09
Why does waking up have to be so hard? One way to make it easier is to set your alarm to play an upbeat song you love. One that’s bright in tone — maybe some Paul Simon or Cut Copy — certainly helps your case, and user TYGARPOW’s soon to learn the benefits of an easy wakeup call now that he/she’s won this iHome dock, which can play music straight from your iTunes library!

Item:
HP Photosmart All-in-One Printer
Price:
$0.15
Winner spent:
Three Voucher Bids
Savings:
$168.84
“Where do you go for your printing?” is not a question that gary620711 will have to field anymore, as he’s won himself an in-home print kit that’s small enough to fit under a desk but powerful enough to produce lab-quality photos. It also works as an effective copier and scanner!

Item: NeoPAD Touch Screen Tablet bundle
Price: $0.30
Winner spent: Seven Voucher Bids
Savings: $139.69
Need a mobile command center but can’t fork over the money for a retail-priced iPad? Lolly79 saved almost the whole retail price of this NeoPAD Touch Screen that does almost all the same stuff, plus all the capabilities offered by an inbuilt keyboard!

Item: Apple TV
Price: $0.23
Winner spent: One Voucher Bid
Savings: $139.69
Cinephiles — also known as movie geeks — tend to be very particular about the quality of the pictures they watch, which is why they love them some Apple TV. It shows live sports, content from Netflix, YouTube, Vimeo, and way more, all in 1080p HD. And all that for a measly Voucher Bid? Well done, i8urbaby. And FYI, we’re going to decline your invitation to bring our kids over to watch the big game at your house.

Item: 250 Voucher Bids
Price: $0.11
Winner spent: Four Real Bids
Savings: $147.49
While we recently pointed out that bullies and “power-bidders” tend to go after Voucher Bid auctions, a few slip through the cracks, to be scooped up by savvy users like mrchevius here. With all those bids, you could’ve won every single one of these six auctions…and found yourself with 231 Voucher Bids to spare. Dang, that’s crazy!

QuiBids is a Great Place to Work!

We’ve all heard about QuiBids and their live auctions, games, deals and just about everything related to their business, but what about the QuiBids team and the QuiBids Company?

There have been some great media interviews with QuiBids CEO, Matt Beckham, where he’s explained the inception and creation of QuiBids and how it works. Not to mention this past April when QuiBids was recognized as one their home state’s Innovators of the Year. This prestigious award honors business innovators in Oklahoma.

above: What’s up, employees?

With all the buzz in the biz, it’s no surprise to learn that QuiBids has also been selected as one of the best employers in Oklahoma. So not only is QuiBids an entertaining retail auction website, but also an entertaining and great place to work. QuiBids has been featured in okBIZ magazine as one of “The Top 30 Best Places to Work in Oklahoma”.

Data collected from the Best Companies Group took entries and performed employee surveys to determine the companies that had the best practices and participants to rank them as finalists for the 2012 Best Places to Work in Oklahoma program. This program is set to identify and honor the state’s best employers.

The survey categories within this study were: Leadership and Planning, Corporate Culture and Communications, Role Satisfaction, Work Environment and Relationship with Supervisor. An awards gala will be held on June 28, 2012 at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel and finalists will be featured in the July issue of okcBIZ.

If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at QuiBids, check out their social networks through QuiBids Facebook and QuiBids Twitter. Their team enjoys what they do and the success of their site shows! It’s important to love what you do and to have fun with it and by the looks of this recently uploaded QuiBids YouTube video, their team is never short of having some fun.

Some QuiBidders to watch out for…

Like just about any place human beings gather — be it a playground, a bar, or an online entertainment auction — you’re going to encounter a lot of different types: wanderers, peacemakers, observers, and the strategists. Unfortunately you’re also pretty likely to run into bullies and unfortunately, QuiBids has a few.

Some call them hogs, others, powerbidders. Often their bidding strategies defy logic, at least immediately. Why spend 300 bids on a Voucher Bid auction only worth a third of that? Usually they do it to gain notoriety, to scare others away from stepping up against them on the auction block. They choose names like XXNEVERXGIVEUPXX or youcantbeatme72 and they just seem to never run out of bids, don’t they?

A lot of people who monitor QuiBids see these users bidding well past the number of bids the voucher is worth, or even beyond the cost of an item and accuse QuiBids of being a scam or a ripoff because we’re using robots or shill bidders to jack up the prices and get more people spending money on bids. This is completely untrue (a third-party audit by Grant Thornton LLP found that all of our claims about the validity of our auctions are true), as we do our best to provide a fair, fun online shopping experience for all of our customers every day, and would never-ever use bots or shill bidders or any other such tactic that would undermine the fairness of our auctions.

Unfortunately these bullies exist as something of an anomaly we can’t really control — we can’t make any user stop bidding in an auction, though we do suggest them to Buy Now when they get so committed to it that they could potentially lose money. It’s similar to warning people that they shouldn’t say certain things in public, but if they really want to do it, there’s no real stopping them.

Anyhoo, here are a handful of recent auctions won in rather absurd fashion by powerbidders. Have a look and jot down some names so you know what you’re getting into in future auctions.

Author quibids    Category QuiBids News     Tags

Although our members and new members can easily find our live auctions and featured auctions we created organized categories to make it easier for bidders to find what they’re looking for, bid and win. The categories include electronics, home and garden, jewelry and fashion, sports and recreation, vouchers and limit busters. Each of these categories holds relevant items available to bid on.

QuiBids Electronics
Are you interested in electronics like computers, tablets, and MP3 players? Then the QuiBids Electronics Category is your main page. Find all the latest in electronic products available to bid for pennies on the dollar. Find out the product, price and countdown timer on the category page.

Feeling indecisive? Or maybe you’re new to QuiBids? Either way, you’ll have to check out QuiBids Vouchers and Limit Busters category. It gives you the same opportunity to visit a category page, but allows you to go after more Voucher Bids. Should you win one of these voucher auctions, they will be credited to your existing QuiBids account and you can start using them immediately. It’s a great way to get your feet wet and start small, then work your way up to larger items. Keep in mind that Voucher Bids do not count toward the Buy Now.

With QuiBids Limit Busters, winners can clear a win out of their account from their 28-day auction win limits in order to participate in more auctions. See additional information on Limit Busters in the Limit Buster info section of the site.

We’ve created categories to make it easier for our members to find what they want immediately, so whether you enjoy fashion or the outdoors you can easily visit our Live Auctions Category page to start bidding on items you want right now! Either way you bid, the most important thing is to have fun!

Have you heard about QuiBids’ April video contest?

April’s almost over and that means our monthly promotion is nearing its end. But don’t worry — you’ve still got plenty of time to enter for the chance to win a brand-new iPad, and achieve worldwide viral video stardom while you’re at it.

This month’s QuiBids promotion is a video unboxing contest, so don’t open your latest win on our site just yet! Save it for when you’ve got some device used for shooting video on hand, as well as a quiet, well-lit room, and a creative idea, so you can make the most of your QuiBids unboxing!

Don’t own a camera that shoots video? We recommend you look here. Or here, here, here, or, if you’re feeling extra fancy, here.

Once you’ve got your camera in hand, you’re ready to get your Steven Spielberg on! Here are four quick ideas to help improve your QuiBids unboxing video, which we’ll be judging on quality and creativity.

1. Spice up your video with a sprig of narrative.
Watching other people open up gifts is usually only fun on Christmas, isn’t it? So maybe the best thing you can do is start the thing off with some character development (introduce us to a bidder with a heart of gold!), or toss in a basic conflict or two (“Oh no! Our router just fell in the laundry machine! How am I supposed to win amazing prizes on QuiBids now?!”). It might also help to toss in a zombie or vampire or two, just to keep things interesting.

2. Got a unique talent or hobby? Put it to use.
YouTube is festering with videos of oddball, irrelevant talent or obsession that otherwise would’ve remained obscure to the general public. Similarly, there’s a reason OK Go is still a relevant band, and that’s because people just get compelled by this stuff.  Do it right, and you might just become a viral video star, too!

3. Write a song!
If this cowboy can write a sing-along about social media, surely somebody out there with an ear for melody and a penchant for rhyming can do the same for a QuiBids unboxing. And please, no dubstep remixes…

4. Cute is good.
Do you spend time aiding conservation efforts by rescuing orphaned baby otters? Then what are you waiting for? Put that cute little critter in your video! QuiBids employees aren’t above irrational but adorable appeals by infant animals.

What am I supposed to do when I’m done with my video?
It’s easy! Just upload it through the video application at our QuiBids Facebook page. It might also behoove you to scan our privacy policy while you’re at it, just to make sure that you’re cool with us sharing your work on the Internet.

QuiBids Canada April auction recap

In an unofficial, just-conducted poll of the QuiBids PR office, it was recently determined that Having Fun and Saving Money are the two biggest reasons customers return to QuiBids day after day. You’d think that by now, nearly three years into our existence, we would’ve gotten used to the thrill of celebrating our shoppers’ victories with them, but it honestly never gets old. We could easily get lost scrolling through the throngs of finished auctions, marveling at the massive savings all the time, but then we realize that we’d be slowing up the process and our customers couldn’t shop anymore and we’d be out of business and you’d be out of savings!

So we keep at it, plugging away between vendors and the site to keep saving you money. It’s a fun job for us, and it’s made even more fun when we get to highlight the big wins each month. Here are eight from QuiBids Canada in the month of April — get ready to get jealous!

Item: Zojirushi Supreme 2lb Bread Machine
Price: $0.98
Winner spent: 38 Real Bids
Savings: $236.21
Is there anything quite so satisfying as the aroma of homemade bread in your kitchen? Well, mingle that scent with the knowledge that you saved more than $200 acquiring it, and it’ll smell even sweeter!

Item: Toshiba 24” 1080P LED TV w/DVD
Price: $0.71
Winner spent: 1 Real Bid, 6 Voucher Bids
Savings: $328.68
71 cents paid on a 24-inch television? That breaks down to just about four cents per square inch, which is nearly as cheap as land acquired in the great Oklahoma Land Run.

Item: T-Fal Electric Fondue Pot (+ 1X Gameplay)
Price: $0.28
Winner spent: 3 Real Bids
Savings: $57.91
I was thinking about making a really cheesy joke about this fondue set, but reserving myself is often a gouda exercise in self-control.

Item: Swann Sky Eye RC Helicopter (+ 20 Voucher Bids)
Price: $0.11
Winner spent: 4 Voucher Bids
Savings: $116.88
For the modest price of eleven cents and four free Voucher Bids, user Wyaneb can now survey the skies with his or her nifty new mini-chopper. We played with a few of these things in the QuiBids office last week and they’re about three or four barrels’ worth of fun.

Item: Canon EOS Rebel T3i Camera Kit
Price: $1.55
Winner spent: 14 Real Bids
Savings: $451.04
Ask anybody in the large, worldwide community of professional and hobbyist photographers, and they’ll tell you it’s a rewarding but expensive habit. Saving this much on a beginner kit is a huge deal — user Nash17 can already get started on buying a unique camera lens to make his or her photos stand out from the rest.

Item: OXO 7-Piece Barware Set (+20 Bids)
Price: $0.08
Winner spent: 2 Voucher Bids
Savings: $64.91
You know in action movies where the bad guy breaks into somebody’s house, and that somebody grabs a knife out of the kitchen set to defend herself? Well, at least she’ll have the satisfaction of knowing she got a high-quality weapon for next to nothing!

Item: Monster Beats by Dre Solo HD Headphones

Price: $0.31
Winner spent: 6 Real Bids
Savings: $223.58
Dr. Dre recently appeared on a track with up-and-coming west coast hip-hop innovator Kendrick Lamar, and it’s awesome. We recommend that user bokchoy4u unbox his or her Beats By Dre headphones and immediately head to the Internet to listen to it.

Item: Samsung 3D Blu-ray Player
Price: $0.36
Winner spent: 14 Real Bids
Savings: $304.23
This person, dman1963, will get to watch 3D films in his living room without breaking a $20 bill. This must be what living in the future feels like.

That’s not all folks! Did you have a big April win that our recap missed? Link us to it in the comments, or email me at matt[dot]carney[at]quibids[dot]com and I’ll add it to the bottom of the post!
